Crazy For You and Scrap Sanity!

As you may already know, the lovely Tiff Sawyer asked me to be on her design team as her card specialist over at Scrap Sanity.  I am honoured and excited to be part of her fabulous team and vision for the future!

Every month I will be making at least two cards using products available at Scrap Sanity.  The first will be a simple folded card, portrait or landscape.  The second will be using the same or almost the same set of supplies to make a card that is not-so-normal.  I have a number of construction cards to get through by December and have started my first post with an Easel Card.

Please excuse the late night photography and dodgy blogpost while I should be packing as I move house Saturday!!

Here is the normal card -
A Simple Card using:
Basic Grey Kissing Booth PP
Red c/s
My Favourite Things - A Layered Label die
Some old rub ons i had laying around created the greeting
Flourish with a Bling pearls in antique gold
Tim Holtz Alterations Die - Tattered Floral (for the rose, instructions below)
add for the construction card - Flourish with a Bling - Chloe Antique Gold

step 1 - cut 3 of the large 6 petal flowers..
step 2 - cut a line to the centre, then one petal off, then 2 petals off...
step 3 - roll the edges under with something narrow...
step 4 - close the gaps by sticking one petal to another - see the X; but also roll and secure the 2petals and the 1 petal you removed...
step 5 - they should look like this - just place then inside each other...
I added a Flourish with a Bling in the centre:

Now for the Easel card:
I cut a strip of c/s and folded at the points you see in the pic below
Only put tape on the bottom half of the front of the card
and decided it was too plain and needed some bling so lifted off the label and added some then put the label back down!
Stick the rose to the inside of the card with some excess bling and that becomes the stopping object to keep the easel up!
And of course don't forget a matching envelope!!

Thanks for stopping by - and I hope you are inspired to create an easel card too!

13 - Happy Housewarming

I did this card in the hope it would prompt a positive response for my application for a rental and you know what - it did!!!!!  This door is a brand new product from Twiddleybitz (so not yet on the site but you will see it soon under the heading of Feb 2012 releases) - there are two types of doors, this and another that has more paneling cutouts in the door.
I used a mixture of the Tim Holtz crackle paints, stains, and inks for the door - and then put a coat of mod podge to finish it off.  I'm really happy how it turned out - especially since it turned into my good-luck charm!!

Ingredients:
Cardstock - Cream shimmer
Twiddleybitz - French Solid Door (DF002)
Twiddleybitz - Fern Leaves
Twiddleybitz - Itty Bitty Alphabet - black (ALPHA005B)
Tim Holtz Distress Paint - Vintage Photo and Antique linen
Tim Holtz Distress Stain - Aged Mahogany
Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, Black Soot
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist - Coffee Shop, Forest Green
Adirondack paint dauber - gold
Mod Podge
Kaiser Transparency

Storage/Organisation Hints & Tips...

Ok so we as crafters are always on the lookout for 'better' storage solutions.  I have all sorts of things suggested to me including a visit to Ikea.  I am an absolute nutter for Stationery, Bunnings, and containers so I know it would be absolutely FATAL for me to go to Ikea(I have never been!).
As you know I recently 'finished' (I use inverted comma's because are our rooms ever really finished?) setting up the studio and have been struggling with storage for my 25 shot glasses of colour coded brads and buttons etc, and thanks to Tracy at My2Angels - my ever increasing number of charms, chains, flowers, tiles......

The answer come to me compliments of Kmart - $15 bought me a rotating spice rack with 16 bottles.  So damn awesome!  I have 1 for my charms - brass on the top row, and silver on the bottom, sorted by theme and when I can find my Dymo they'll be labelled!  The second  rack is full of my brads, buttons, and bits - sorted into colours (Riley had fun helping me sort out a few that were accidently mixed up!

If this is the answer to your 'small things and bits and bobs' storage - race into Kmart as they're only on special till Wednesday or Thursday (15th or 16th of Feb 2012).

Cheers!

Lady of The Shrine

I have wanted to make a Twiddleybitz Birdcage for so long but everyone was "doing" them and I wanted mine to be a bit different (I also couldn't source a bird for inside!!).  I recently bought some weathered wood Tim Holtz Crackle and thought it was an awesome colour - then noticed I had some 'denim' coloured flowers and some other bits and pieces... and I couldn't stop - I ordered a custom-made flower flourish from the uber-talented Tracy at My2Angels and there was no holding me back!!

Yo Ho Ho

I decided that since I'm heading back to the USA in April I really should scrap at least one photo from my last trip there!  In 2007 I was lucky enough to go to CHA with Alison Ellis from Alison Ellis Design.  It really was the 'trip of a lifetime' and I will never forget it!  It also happened to be my 29th birthday!

To journal on the 12 x 12 I actually cut a strip off the c/s and printed on that - then re-attached on the back, covered by the striped paper.

Journaling reads:  Yo Ho Ho  It's a Pirate's life for me. For my 29th Birthday I got to be a kid again and Explore Disneyland, Anaheim California USA. Visiting CHA with my wonderful friend and long time scrapping boss Alison Ellis.  I got to Experience so very much I thought I never would! I'm not the girl who dreams of being a fairy or princess - Oh No, It's a life of Adventure on the Seven Seas for me! Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourite movies, so I just had to catch up with a few of my would be crew-mates before they set off on a fabulous Journey. I got to enjoy everything Disneyland has to offer and Captain Jack Sparrow even 'commandeered' a few of my chips - oops sorry "fries" before vanishing on me!  January 2007.

Kraft Cardstock
Kaiser Patterned Paper - Le Chateau Collection + ?
Twiddleybitz - Pirate Flag (PIR001)
Flourish With A Bling - Antique Gold Pearls

Twisted Sketches Card #92

My next card for the Twisted Sketches Card Design Team has been published on the Twisted Sketches blog.  The ladies have done an amazing job with this simple sketch - no 92, the interpretations of the sketch are once again quite varied and inspirational!!  The Twist is "fresh" - I used "fresh" and bright colours - a change for me!

Here's the Sketch -
Once again I couldn't help sewing on this card - i think my machine has a new lease on life :-)

For the strip of decoration on the envelope, I did have to carefully unstick the flaps of the envelope - thin tape the paper on to it - sew it in pace, then tape the flaps back up!

Ingredients:
White Pearl Card and Envelope
Kaisercraft Patterned Paper and Die cut Elements from Konstrukt Collection 6x6 Pad
White Paint
White Cotton

Lace Cupboard

I was asked early in the New Year to make another musical cupboard.  The brief was black and white, vintage, fashion...  I like how this one turned out.  The lady whom ordered it was very happy and I'm sure the recipient will be too if the lady's reaction is anything to go by!!

Outside - before adding the musical winder at the back:

With the doors open:

A close-up of Miss Mannequin:

I quite enjoyed this project.  I hand made the large flower inside by using similar techniques to those shown in this youtube video here for the Tim Holtz Grunge Roses.  The flowers were 5 x 3.5cm white mulberry flowers from the My2Angels White Mulberry Flower Paper Pack, then I added the leaves that I coloured with Distress Inks.

Ingredients:
Twiddleybitz - ATC Cupboard
Twiddleybitz - Vintage Miss Mannequins (VTG001)
Bo Bunny - Enchanted Patterned Paper
My2Angels - White Mulberry Flower Paper Pack
Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint - Picket Fence
Tim Holtz Distress Inks - Black Soot, Peeled Paint
Tim Holtz Distress Stickles - Clear Rock Candy
Stazon Ink - Black
Kaiser Pearl strips
Green Tara Lace
Miscellaneous Bead Chain
