Erin's Amazing Birthday Race...

I had such fun creating a game that was different for Erin's Birthday.  The theme for the party was blue.
The invite:

And the game:  I had all the clues and they had to complete the challenge - have a photo taken to confirm it, then come and get their next clue from me!

The first clue was hidden inside the polka-dot balloons, they had to pop it to get it out
Ian buried the two treasure boxes and made some fake holes to confuse them (heheee) - it worked!!!
This is one of the favourite challenges - they had to make a marshmallow pop - and NOT eat it yet (a couple of them bit them and then realised!
Teams of 5 meant at least 1 person had to paint their toes...
they loved this
Funny they didn't read the clue properly for this one - I had to send them back for blue pegs only!!
It's amazing how quickly kids can sign their name in chalk!
The grass had recently been mown so too easy to find.... perhaps mix colours next time or put names on them and they find their own?
Dad was the photographer and got yelled at each time they finished a challenge as they couldn't get their next slue until he had a photo of them, it was hilarious - he had no idea where to be - just came when they yelled finished!!
And the pinata was actually a 'stuffaloon' but it burst in the car on the way to the park so Matthew and Mum rushed down to the 2 shop and bought this blue cupcake and Matt stuffed everything in there instead!  the kids loved it, the winning team got to bash it first and they actually got it open really quickly!  Riley bashed it so hard it burst and broke off the hanger and the kids swamped him - he ended up with a grazed knee but was happy as he got the most from it! :-)

Feel free to create your own Amazing Birthday race and adapt to your kids' likes and age... let me know if you do or you want help.  The rhyming of the clues is easier than you think!

Thank you... my son

I just love this photo of Cameron, makes me all teary and soppy inside!!  The perfect layout for how I feel...

This layout was created for a collaboration between two top Australian Companies - Twiddleybitz, and Manorhouse Creations.  MHC Flowers are great to work with and compliment so many styles - and i hope this layout puts an end to any rumours you've heard that "you can't use flowers on a boy layout - especially for older boys"!
And some close-ups:

  • The splats were made by using the distress stain like a bingo dabber - just 'splat' with the dabber when the end is soaked well :-)
  • I also "splatted" on my non-stick craft mat and then dragged the scrunched up flowers through the splats to colour them :-)
Here's my video tutorial for "How To Splat"!

And the close-up...

I scrapped a Birthday Cake!

Erin's birthday cake was a mission but we knew what she wanted from the very beginning!  I love making the kids cakes (hell any sort of baking as my figure will attest to!) but I'm not all that good.  I was determined and almost lost it when I couldn't get the icing right - but the roses were the perfect thing to cover up the folds! pmsl

I used one of the gorgeous Manorhouse Creations Wintersong Flowers (log Cabin) for the top, and added 1.5cm roses from My2Angels.

The cake is 4 layers of vanilla cake in varying blues. In between each layer is fresh whipped cream and chopped up mars bars :-)

Tasted delicious!  Erin absolutely loved it!  Worth all the effort I think. :-)

Cog-flower Buttonierre

Some time ago i set myself the challenge of making flowers with chipboard cogs... a few failures but then success!!!  I love making these - they're a little fiddley but i think they look great :-)
and a little closer...

These are made from the Tab Cogs available through Twiddleybitz - TABCOG001.
  • I cut out the centres and discarded them.
  • I sprayed the ring with colourspray and while still wet, rolled them like rolled flowers.
  • I then put a blob of hot glue (about the size of a 10c piece) on my craft matt.
  • I pressed my rolled rose into it and let it cool.
  • I then carefully peeled it from the craft sheet and trimmed any excess glue.
  • I then inked, or sprayed until I got the desired colour and let dry completely.
Then came the adding of the floristry wire and tape to make this spray.... Be warned - the tape is tacky on both sides and you end up quite "stuck up"!!

Ingredients:
Twiddleybitz - Tab Cogs (TABCOG001)
Colourspray/Glimmer Mist
Matisse Derivan - Kindy Glitz (Red)
Floristry Wire and tape
My2Angels - Rose leaves, two-tone.

** If you'd like to see these "In the flesh" visit Twiddleybitz at Paperific at the Melbourne Showgrounds next weekend (Aug 31 - 02 Sept) as Nic and Andrew will be wearing them!

Looks and sounds quick and simple but they were actually quite fiddley!!!

iPhone Thoughts...

I have had altering an iphone case on my to-do list for a while now and found the time the other night.  Super happy with the result and have been using it ever since :-)
  • I used alcohol inks to colour the white base.
  • I coloured the centre of the flower with butterscotch alcohol ink.
  • Then some embossing powder - heating the ep only slightly warped the case, it still fits fine!
  • Then I stamped the saying and waited for it to dry.
  • Stuck on the bling.
  • Painted it entirely in the gloss medium.
  • Then painted the frame both sides also in gloss medium and stuck that to the phone.
  • Then painted another coat over the whole lot.
  • Once dry, I used glossy accents to attach the flower.
  • And a touch of brown stazon ink along the edges of the case.
Ingredients:
Generic iPhone hard case
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Pebble
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Espresso
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Hazelnut
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Gold (mixative)
Stazon Ink - Timber Brown

Love is the key ATC...

I love ATC's.  I like the challenge of creating in miniature, and I like the thought that someone likes my work so much they'd like to own a little piece of it!  I made this ATC using the most gorgeous little keys from Twiddleybitz and some awesome new embossing powders by Stampendous...

I made this while at My2Angels the other day scrapping with the lovely Ann Lavin and Tracy Kielty.  I had a picture in my head of how I wanted it to look, so once I raided Tracy's stash it didn't take long to create :-)  I've swapped this ATC with Ann Lavin already :-)

Ingredients:
Art Spectrum - ATC's
Twiddleybitz - Brick template
Twiddleybitz - Miniature Keys (miniature of these)
Distress Ink - Tea Dye
Distress Ink - Vintage Photo
Momento - Black Ink
Embossing Ink
Stampendous - Aged Black Embossing Powder
Darkroom Door Stamps - Keys (DDRS092)
Kaiser Clear Stamp - Botanical (CS795)

Thanks for stopping by - if you ever want to swap an ATC with me, just let me know :-)

Whatever! Mixed Media Canvas

I have finally done it!!  I have finished a mixed media canvas AND made a whatever/who cares clock! LOL

I originally saw a clock on the net just like this that said "who cares, I'm always late anyway"... too many letters so I used "whatever" instead :-)  As much as I hate it and can't stand being late - it's me, a single mum of three, my schedule is never my own and I am ALWAYS late! Now you know my secret!!!

and a closeup:
I used a cog stencil and texture paste; added alcohol ink; added distress inks; added stazon inks; added paint; added embossing powder; then some chipboard cogs, arrows, letters, and of course the numbers.
I was lucky to have a clear picture in my head of what I wanted so this actually only took a few hours - sped up by drying/heating with my heat gun - which added a few bubbles to the texture paste :-)

Ingredients:
30cm canvas board
The Crafters Workshop - Gears template
Jo Sonja's - Texture Paste
Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Brushed Corduroy
Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Vintage Photo
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Pebble
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Butterscotch
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Hazelnut
Ranger Alcohol Ink - Gold (mixative)
Stazon Ink - Timber Brown
Stazon Ink - Jet Black
Versamark Watermark inkpad
Pipe DreamINK - Opals - fools gold
Colourful Thoughts Jewel Enamels - Rich Copper
Colourful Thoughts Jewel Enamels - Deep Gold
Adirondack Paint Dabber - Gold
Twiddleybitz - Small Cogs
Twiddleybitz - Basic Arrows Bag (BAS006)
My2Angels - Hardware Brads

Thanks for stopping by and if you make a 'whatever' clock of your own - I'd love for you to comment with a link so i can see yours too!!

Yipppeeeee

I am so excited to finally be able to share with you all, that I've been accepted as a member of the Twiddleybitz Design Team and a Product Ambassador for another year!!
I look forward to working with Nic and Andrew again and of course the fabulous Twiddley Angels! Please welcome the rest of the team:

To celebrate I thought I'd look back over the past 18 months or so and pick a few of my favourite Twiddleybitz projects...  Most recently my TopHat and the Lover's Garden, but besides those...

I LOVE this layout and my beautiful boy of course.

These techniques are all me! (unfortunately the photo is too!)

Love how beautiful this one is - made for my mum

My sense of humour is shining through!

A class I taught on the Gold Coast with the fabulous wishing well...

For a friend's grandbaby :-)

Again - these techniques are me to the core...

One of many cards - this one created in the wee hours of the morning during one of the Brisbane shows!

More Brisbane show creations - this a Christmas ATC..

My most favourite stamp ever - stamped into coloured thick embossing enamels...

One of many ATC cupboards...

and another...

and another...

House warming card - made in the hopes I could give it to myself if indeed no13 was to be rented to us!

One of my all-time favourite cards:

Oh - and ANOTHER ATC cupboard!!

If you've managed to get to the end of this little trip down memory lane... congratulations!!!  I guess you've figured out now I cannot pick just a few, although there are many I did not pick!  I'm sure that it shows just how much I LOVE Twiddleybitz products and how great they are to work with!

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read my blog and see my creations.  I do hope I have inspired you to create some Twiddleybitz of your own!
